UNEXPECTED ISSUES (System – Starspangledbanner, 2yo debut, turf)
Progeny of the sire Starspangledbanner who make their juvenile debut on turf have a 31 from 207 record (15% strike-rate) for a profit of £42.11 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 20.66, A/E = 1.50). Those trained by Fozzy Stack have form figures of 1850921186600615550296332 (4-25) for a profit of £46.50 and perhaps UNEXPECTED ISSUES can make a winning start to her career.
FAKENHAM 2.15
L’IMPERTINENT (system – J P McManus-owned Class 5 handicappers, jumps)
J P McManus is better known for success at the big spring festivals, but he does extremely well with his runners in Class 5 jumps handicaps in Britain (the lowest grade of handicaps in the National Hunt sphere), scoring with 124 of the 591 qualifiers this century (21% strike-rate) for a profit of £126.74 to a 31 level stake at SP (expected winners = 91.12, A/E = 1.36). L’IMPERTINENT unseated at Chepstow last time but that was when 33-1 for Class 2 handicap chase and he looks interesting now dropped into a Class 5 selling handicap.
FFOS LAS 4.30
OPTIMISTIC JOE (system – Philip Hobbs & Johnson White, Ffos Las handicaps)
The Hobbs & White yard does well in handicaps at Ffos Las, scoring with 13 of the 47 qualifiers since the beginning of 2016 (27.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £22.83 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 6.28, A/E = 2.07). OPTIMISTIC JOE could only finish a modest fourth at Huntingdon on his handicap debut last month, but the good ground would have been too fast and he’s worth another chance.
