Since Southwell de-compacted the Tapeta surface it’s been very hard to win from a low draw on the straight 5f sprint course. Since the beginning of September, those drawn in stall 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 are just one from 50 against an expected wins figure of almost five.
The first four races on today’s card are to be run over the minimum trip and my fancy in race 2, THE THIN BLUE LINE, has stall 6 of 8. KHABIB (stall 8) has also been well supported and a buy of DOUBLE DRAW OF WINNER at 10.5 with Spreadex could pay dividends. Fixed odds punters might want to combine the pair in a reversed forecast.

Assuming the earlier 5f Southwell races suggest those drawn high have the edge, then I want to be with COUNT D’ORSAY from stall 9 of 9. Tim Easterby’s six-year-old has run well in the Gosforth Park Cup Handicap at Newcastle on his two previous Tapeta runs and should be suited by today’s track. The small field will also suit, as he can encounter traffic trouble when faced with double-digit line-ups. Buy at 7 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price (9-1).
