Traditionally, Stratford’s hurdles course has favoured early pace, but conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdles tend to be an exception to the rule, and we’ve seen plenty of winners of this extended 2m2f contest come from off the pace, including the last two. With 11 runners and two pacesetters in the shape of BEHOLDEN and FENNA’S LOSS we could see the race set up for a stalker. Daisy Hitchins has her small string in good form and her PAK ARMY, a winner on the Flat at Bath last time, is likely to be in the second wave, just behind the pace. The nine-year-old won here last summer on her sole previous course outing and clocked a good time when a 50-1 sixth of 16 at Taunton on her latest hurdles run. PERTH 3.15
MALANGEN has a very consistent record over 2m4f at Perth, recording form figures of 271U432122 (2-10), improving to 2713212 (2-7) when returned to the track within a fortnight of his previous start. The seventh place (when 18-1) can be excused as the big field (13 ran) didn’t suit this prominent racer. Lisa Harrison’s nine-year-old faces ten rivals in this Class 4 handicap hurdle and doesn’t look to face a great deal of competition for the early lead. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
