ASCOT 1.50
Last year’s winner KINROSS, the mount of Frankie Dettori, understandably heads the market for the 6f British Chamopins Sprint Stakes but this is no cakewalk and the Charlie Fellowes-trained VADREAM looks the value call. The five-year-old is unbeaten in three starts at this trip on soft or heavy going and her come-from-behind style is ideal for Ascot. She ran a blinder in this race last year, finishing an 80-1 sixth of 18 on unsuitably fast going and her stall 2 draw could be handy, as she’s drawn near likely pace angles ART POWER (stall 1) and SWINGALONG (stall 3). Buy at 15 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market.
Recommendation: Back VADREAM in Ascot 1.50
ASCOT 3.05
The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is perhaps more open than the betting suggests and the three at the head of the market – PADDINGTON (2-1 with Spreadex), TAHIYRA (3-1) and NASHWA (7-2) – don’t look bombproof. Paddington arrives here on the back of a disappointing run at York, Tahiyra is taking on male rivals for the first time in her career and Nashwa, who can race keenly, is running on ground softer than preferred. This has been a good race for the French and both FACTEUR CHEVAL (14-1), runner-up to Paddington under a less-than-inspired ride in the Sussex Stakes, and BIG ROCK (13-2) are worth having on our side. I also want to be with 28-1 chance CHECKANDCHALLENGE – the son of Fast Company ran well in this race last year and will relish the deep ground – and the best play is to sell DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER at 15 with Spreadex as the trio all have low racecard numbers.

ASCOT 3.45
I was tempted to sell HORIZON DORE in the Champion Stakes but the French raider is on the drift (currently 12-15 in the 50-25-10 market with Spreadex) and I’d rather buy ROYAL RHYME at 7 (14-1 in the fixed odds betting). Karl Burke’s three-year-old is better equipped to handle underfoot conditions than the majority of his rivals, having record form figures when the word ‘soft’ crops up in the going description of 1111 (4-4). He’s up in class after gamely landing the Listed Doonside Cup at Ayr but his speed figures suggest that he’ll be competitive.
Recommendation: Back ROYAL RHYME in Ascot 3.45
