It can’t be much fun for Champion Jockey WILLIAM BUICK to be riding on the all-weather at Lingfield at this time of year when he sees colleagues like Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle competing in big races in Hong Kong and sunnier climbs. He’s had just one winner (1-5 favourite) from a dozen all-weather rides so far this winter and his spread might be set a little high at 39-42 in the LINGFIELD JOCKEYS MARKET today. The first of his four rides is a Richard Hannon-trainer newcomer, THREEBARS, who is likely to improve for the experience in the 6f maiden at 12.05, while VISION OF HOPE is on the drift in the 12.35. She makes her debut for George Boughey, who hasn’t got the greatest record at this first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards. KIRILENKO heads the betting at around 2-1 for the 1m fillies’ handicap (1.10) but she was beaten at odds of 11-10 at Kempton on her sole all-weather outing and her pedigree suggests that Tapeta, rather than Polytrack, will suit. Buick’s final ride is 4-11 favourite NOBLE DYNASTY (1.45), a winner at Newmarket last time. However, he’s 0-3 immediately following a win, with the defeats at odds of 7-4, 5-2 and 9-4, so might not be totally bombproof. Sell at 39.

Since this staying handicap was run over regulation hurdles rather than the fixed brush variety, all five winners prepped in handicap company. Those who didn’t were 0-21 and that could count against MIGHT I and COMPLETE UNKNOWN, two of those near the head of the market. I’m also looking to take on David Pipe’s BRINKLEY, as he seems best on right-handed tracks. Since undergoing wind surgery two years ago, his record right-handed reads 111 (3-3), compared to form figures of 0P3 (0-3) when racing on left-handed tracks. He received the comment ‘jumped slightly right throughout’ from the Racing Post when pulling up at Chepstow on his penultimate start and could be vulnerable again today. These three are numbers 8, 9 and 10 on the racecard and a sell of DOUBLE NUMBER OF WINNER at 13.5 with Spreadex could be the best way to take them on.
