KEMPTON 2.40
Andrew Balding’s OLD HARROVIAN has been off the track since his sixth of seven in the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes at Newbury last May, but the subsequent absence suggests excuses that day. The return to the all-weather will suit – he has won both his starts on synthetics by a combined margin of 14 lengths – and the first of those victories came after a break of 355 days, suggesting that the absence won’t be an issue. His trainer is eight from 44 with his all-weather runners in a first-time tongue-tie (+£4.74 to a £1 level stake at SP) and the headgear goes on for the first time today. Buy at 23 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price (5-2).
Recommendation: Back OLD HARROVIAN in Kempton 2.40
KEMPTON 3.15
SPIRIT MIXER was only eighth of 13 in a 2m handicap at Lingfield last time, but Andrew Balding’s six-year-old was returning from a break of 328 days since his sole 2023 outing, a mid-division effort at Musselburgh. That Lingfield form has already started to work out well, with the runner-up (Prydwen) reversing the form with the winner (Spartan Army) when the pair finished one-three in the All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap at Newcastle on Good Friday. God Of Thunder, one place ahead of Spirit Mixer at Lingfield, landed a valuable 16-runner handicap art the same venue on his next start to further boost the form. Spirit Mixer won second time out in 2022 and though yet to win in a big field, his half-length second to Trueshan in the 2022 Northumberland Plate suggests that he won’t have an issue with today’s 13-runner line-up and is stable is in fantastic form. Buy at15 in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price (6-1).
UTTOXETER 3.55
Surprisingly, Uttoxeter’s meeting goes ahead today, and the going is going to be extremely testing. That could count against GLANCE FROM CLOVER who jumped moderately before falling in a small field on soft ground at Warwick last time. Alastair Ralph’s nine-year-old was withdrawn from an intended engagement at Southwell in November as heavy going was deemed unsuitable and he can be sold in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with course winner NOT SURE, fourth to Nassalam on desperate going in the Welsh National before a respectable third at Lingfield.
Recommendation: Oppose GLANCE FROM CLOVER in Uttoxeter 3.55
