O’Callaghan’s NAVASSA ISLAND has only won a good-ground Curragh maiden from five starts but four of her runs came on a sound surface and she improved for good to soft going when third in a fillies’ Group 3 at Ayr last time. The daughter of Territories is bred to relish today’s heavy conditions and further improvement looks likely. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

WETHERBY JOCKEYS
HARRY SKELTON is a jockey to have on your side at Wetherby when conditions are testing, often tracking very wide in search of the better ground. Supporting all his mounts at the Yorkshire venue, regardless of underfoot conditions, would have found 51 winners from 153 bets (33.33% strike-rate) for a profit of £8.09 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who were in the top four in the betting were 61 from 127 (40.2%) for a profit of £34.09. PRESENTING NELLY (12.40), VIRGINIA LODGE (3.35) and ASTA LA PASTA (4.10) all have realistic claims in their respective races and a buy of Skelton in the Spreadex JOCKEYS MARKET looks warranted. Fixed odds punters might want to combine his mounts in a multiple bet.
NEWCASTLE 6.15
ROGUE FORCE was only sixth of the ten runners when 7-1 for a 7f Ayr handicap on his latest outing but that run took his turf score to zero from 13 and he’ll be happier back on the all-weather. He won three times at Kempton when with Tom Clover and this will be his first outing on synthetics for current trainer Mike Smith. Admittedly, his sole previous Tapeta run (at Wolverhampton) resulted in a heavy defeat but he failed to settle that day and his sire gets plenty of winners at Newcastle. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or back him each-way.
Recommendation: Back ROGUE FORCE in Newcastle 6.15
