CARTMEL 4.00

VROOMOZ EILE (System – Charlotte Jones, Cartmel)

Jockey Charlotte Jones has a cracking record at Cartmel, scoring on 28 of her 112 mounts (25% strike-rate) for a profit of £18.46 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 17.41, A/E = 1.61). Most of those rides came for Jimmy Moffatt and she has three for the yard today, including new recruit VROOMOZ EILE. Moffatt has a fantastic record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other handlers and this ex-pointer could go well at a price.

HAYDOCK 4.10

BEECHWOOD STAR (system – Richard Fahey, first-time blinkers, 5f-7f handicaps)

BEECHWOOD STAR caught the eye against draw/pace biases on more than one occasion in his early starts last term and though ultimately disappointing he would have needed his comeback run at Thirsk last month, his first since a gelding operation. The blinkers go on today and his trainer is ten from 56 since 2011 when using this headgear for the first-time in a handicap over 5f-7f (+£78.75 to a £1 level stake at SP). The potential downside is his stall 2 of 15 draw but he’s still worth a small win-only interest at a big price (25-1 at the time of writing). I’ve also backed the consistent CHARLIE MASON, who clocked a fast time  when scoring at Windsor on his latest start.

SALISBURY 7.00

HILLTOP (system – New Bay, top three finish last time out)

Progeny of the sire New Bay tend to hold their form well and, prior to yesterday’s racing, simply backing all those who finished in the top three on their latest start would have found 141 winners from 525 bets (26.9% strike-rate) for a profit of £138.56 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 106.87, A/E = 1.32). HILLTOP, third to a good yardstick in Gogo Yubari at Wolverhampton last time, could be worth chancing on her turf debut.

WINDSOR 7.45

TARJEEH (system – Owen Burrows, handicap debut, fresh)

Owen Burrows has a good record with handicap debutants, especially those returning from more than one month off the track. The in-form handler has scored with 19 of the 65 qualifiers (29.2%) for a profit of £29.03 (expected winners = 11.51, A/E = 1.65) and TARJEEH, a winner in novice company the last twice, can complete his hat-trick.
