NEWBURY 1.40
LARIO (system – Harry Derham stable switchers)
Up-and-coming handler Harry Derham has a cracking record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards, scoring with 17 of the 41 qualifiers (41.5%) for a profit of £61.28 to the usual £1 level stake at SP. LARIO, successful in a Plumpton maiden hurdle on his final outing for Anthony Charlton, can continue his progression.
DONCASTER 1.50
MYSTICAL ELEGANCE (system – Amo Racing-owned newcomers)
Owner Amo Racing (and horses they own in partnership) do extremely well with newcomers, regardless of age and who trains them. They had a well backed debutant score at the Curragh on Monday to take the score to 41 winners from 181 runners (22.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £40.23 to a £1 level stake at SP. The turf runners in the month of March have form figures of 12111 (4-5) and MYSTICAL ELEGANCE looks the answer to the Brocklesby Stakes.
NEWBURY 3.15
DRUMLEE SPUD (system – young progeny of Malinas, jumps handicaps)
Backing jumps handicappers aged seven or younger who were sire by Malinas would have found 133 winners from 752 bets (17.7%) for a profit of £54.43 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those running on good to soft or softer going (time based, not the official going verdict) were 86 from 455 (18.9%) for a profit of £95.90. Point winner DRUMLEEE SPUD remains open to improvement after just four starts under rules and is taken to cause an upset.
DONCASTER 4.10
HARPER’S FERRY (system – Ed Walker second time out 3yos, won or beaten by 5L or less on debut)
Ed Walker has an excellent record with his second time out three-year olds and those who won or got within five lengths of the winner on debut are 16 from 46 (35.8%) for a profit of £16.89. HARPER’S FERRY only went down by a nose in second place when 50-1 for a soft-ground Newmarket novice on his sole juvenile outing and can go one better.
WOLVERHAMPTON 4.40
DUELY SPICED (system – Due Diligence, visored)
Progeny of the sire Due Diligence have a 12 from 53 record when fitted with a visor, landing 12 of their 53 starts (22.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £34.45 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those wearing a visor for the first time were four from 11 (+£39.83). The fillies were 0-4 but they all started at 40-1 or bigger and that won’t put me off from having a small interest on Gay Kelleway’s DUELY SPICED, who gets the headgear for the first time in this 5f maiden.
