Venetia Williams has a fine record with handicappers on their first run back following a wind operation, with those returning from a break of at least 150 days landing 14 of their 38 starts for a profit of £72.45 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 7.10, A/E = 1.97). The yard was among the winners here yesterday and KAPGA DE LILY looks interesting at a nice price after the wind operation.

PANHANDLE SLIM (system – Donald McCain, non-handicap hurdles, Bangor)
Since the start of 2011, Donald McCain’s record with his non-handicap hurdlers at Bangor stand at 74 winners from 262 bets (28.2%) for a profit of £46.18 to a £1 level stake at SP. He has both Tara Cove and PANHANDLE SLIM in this novices’ contest, with preference for the last-named who will appreciate the return to this sharp track after struggling to last home when fourth at stiff Carlisle last time.

There are a few I like in the Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase, with MIDNIGHT RIVER my main play ahead of ZANZA but I also want an interest on BILL BAXTER who has been diverted to this race after Newcastle was abandoned. The Warren Greatrex-trained seven-year-old is four from four on left-handed track since undergoing his first wind operation and now returns from another. Progeny of his sire Milan typically improve for having their wind tinkered with, landing 22 of their 115 starts (19.1%) on their first run back after the surgery for a profit of £112.88 to a £1 level stake at SP.
