Andrew heads to Haydock, Sandown, Southwell and Ripon for his five stats-based selections on Saturday, April 29th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
HAYDOCK 2.05
BRIAN THE SNAIL (system – class barrier)
Veteran BRIAN THE SNAIL has form figures of 111314087 (4-9) in Class 4 or lower company and though unplaced in both runs last year, he didn’t fare badly over 5f here in September on his return from a year off. He’s back from another break today but probably doesn’t deserve to be the 50-1 outsider of the field and is worth a small each-way interest.
RIPON 2.25
INVINCIBLE FRIEND (system -Tom Dascombe, restricted novice stakes)
Tom Dascombe is six from 21 with his runners in restricted novice company and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £23.66 to a £1 level stake at SP. Newcomer INVINCIBLE FRIEND is a big price but could be worth chancing to small stakes.
SANDOWN 3.25
HONNEUR D’ANJONC (system – course direction)
The Jane Williams-trained HONNEUR D’ANJONC pulled up at Newbury last time out but he has a poor record on left-handed tracks and that run is easily forgiven. His record right-handed reads 2F9121211421 (5-12) and he could provide some value in an open contest.
SANDOWN 4.00
CALL ME LORD (system – course expert)
Ten-year-old Sandown expert CALL ME LORD rarely runs a bad race at the Esher venue, recording form figures of 11213236322 (3-11). He was the 14-1 outsider of five at the time of writing and looks worth an each-way punt at those sort of odds.
HAYDOCK 4.55
CONGRESBURY (system – Richard Hannon, first-time blinkers, handicaps only)
Since the beginning of 2015, Richard Hannon is 17 from 140 (12.1% strike-rate) with first-time blinkered runners in handicaps for a profit of £74.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. His most recent qualifier was a 25-1 Southwell winner in January and perhaps CONGRESBURY can follow suit.
