WINDSOR 1.45
ZOUKSTER (system – Zoustar, 6f)
Progeny of the sire Zoustar have a nine from 44 record (20.5% strike-rate) when racing over a trip of 6f and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £21.70 to a £1 level stake at SP. With odds-on favourite Kerdos stuck out in stall 13, it could be worth chancing Ed Walker’s ZOUKSTER to make a winning debut.
YARMOUTH 1.55
ALZAHIR (system – Gosden yard, first-time hood, turf)
John & Thady Gosden have a great record when fitting one of their turf runners with a first-time hood, scoring with 21 of the 56 qualifiers since the beginning of 2014 (37.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £106.17.
ALZAHIR, short-headed by the now 110-rated Naval Power over today’s course and distance on his debut, reportedly ran too free when mid-division in Listed company at Ascot next time. He’s had a wind operation, the hood goes on and he’s going to be hard to beat if re-producing that debut effort.
WINDSOR 3.20
SWIFT TUTTLE (system – Brian Meehan, gelded since last run)
Since the start of the 2015 season, Brian Meehan has a nine from 34 record with newly gelded runners in turf handicaps for a profit of £25.50. He’s two from two with the qualifiers at Windsor (9-1 and 9-2), albeit both came back in 2017. SWIFT TUTTLE, a son of Fast Company, is bred to appreciate any cut in the ground and looks worth chancing at a big price on his handicap debut.
YARMOUTH 4.00
PENNYMOOR (system – Gosden yard, first-time hood, turf)
PENNYMOOR is a qualifier on the Gosden first-time good angle (see 1.55 for stats) and it’s fascinating to see her back on the track almost 12 months since finishing second to Sea La Rosa in Listed company at Lingfield. Then winner went on to land four of her next five starts, the latest in Group 1 company, and is now rated 110. Any rain will suit.
WINDSOR 4.50
TEAGARDEN JAZZ (system – Charlton yard, first-time cheekpieces, turf handicaps)
Harry & Roger Charlton have a 12 from 45 record with turf handicappers in first-time cheekpieces and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £38.53 to a £1 level stake at SP. TEAGARDEN JAZZ disappointed in a first-time tongue-tie on Tapeta last time but went close at Haydock on her penultimate start where she fared best of those to come from off the pace.
