David Simcock-trained juvenile newcomers have a reputation for needing their initial outings but when he books Jamie Spencer to ride one on turf, they have a good record. Twelve of the 58 qualifiers were successful (20.7% strike-rate) and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £23.50 to the usual £1 level stake at SP. The already-gelded CALEDONIAN, a 95,000gns yearling, could be worth chancing on his debut.

DC FLYER (system – Kevin Ryan, Washington DC)
Kevin Ryan has a good record with progeny of the sire Washington DC, scoring with ten of the 61 qualifiers (16.4%) for a profit of £56.13. DC FLYER finished well beaten at Carlisle last time, but today’s small field and slower ground will suit and he’s worth another chance. The first-time cheekpieces could also produce some improvement.
