DONCASTER 12.30
URBAN SOLDIER (system – Harry Derham stable switchers)
Harry Derham has a fine record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with 13 of the 32 qualifiers for a profit of £57.41 to a £1 level stake at SP. URBAN SOLDIER has had wind surgery since disappointing at Taunton in February on his final start for Paul Nicholls and can get off the mark in this 3m novices’ handicap hurdle.
BANGOR 2.05
TAGANYIKA (system – Venetia Williams, handicap chasers in December, recent run)
Since 2012, Venetia Williams has a 63 from 272 record (23.2%) with her handicap chasers in December who had raced within the previous four weeks. Backing them blind would have returned a profit of £77.15 to a £1 level stake at SP and TANGANYIKA, who had a spin over hurdles at Wincanton last month, is taken to make a winning chase debut.
DONCASTER 2.15
SCRUM DIDDLY (system- Malinas, young jumps handicappers)
The more youthful (aged seven or younger) progeny of the sire Malinas have a solid record in handicap hurdles/chases, landing 125 of their 697 starts (17.9% strike-rate) for a profit of £79.87 to a £1 level stake at SP (prior to yesterday’s racing). Harry Derham’s SCRUM DIDDLY finished a close-up second at Ascot last time on his second outing for the yard and can go one better.
BANGOR 3.10
WHITEHAVEN (system – Donald McCain, handicap hurdles at Bangor, recent run)
Donald McCain has a fine record in handicap hurdles at Bangor – one of his local tracks – with horses who had the benefit of a race outing (within the last 28 days). Since the beginning of 2011, he’s scored with 47 of the 145 qualifiers (32.4% strike-rate) for a huge profit of £146.16 to a £1 level stake at SP. Both WHITEHAVEN and Present Fait qualify, with the first-named preferred.
