PSG’s transfer record remains the most expensive transfer in football history, six years on from the deal.
Few clubs in world football can come close to competing with Paris Saint-Germain’s financial clout. The Ligue 1 giants are among the biggest brands in global sport, and have the monetary backing to go with it.
Over the years, PSG have dropped some exorbitant sums of money on new signings in a bid to finally lift the UEFA Champions League.
But despite their best efforts, Europe’s top prize has eluded them. Nevertheless, we’ve taken a look at just how much PSG have paid for their record transfers over the years.
How Much did Mbappe Cost PSG?
Coming in at a cool €180 million, Kylian Mbappe’s transfer fee was huge. The French superstar left AS Monaco in 2018 for a gargantuan sum.
In that time, he’s scored 233 goals in 283 games for PSG. Not a bad return, and the World Cup winner also has 100 assists for the club.
Now expected to join Real Madrid at the end of his contract, it seems unlikely that PSG make anything back on Mbappe’s fee when he goes.
How Much Did Neymar Cost PSG?
But even Kylian Mbappe’s transfer fee falls well short of what PSG paid for Neymar. The Brazilian joined from La Liga giants Barcelona in 2017 for a world record €222 million.
Smashing PSG’s transfer record to bits, the flamboyant trickster enjoyed a successful six years in Paris before joining Saudi club Al-Hilal this summer.
PSG did at least recoup some Neymar’s transfer fee, with Al-Hilal coughing up €90 million for the Brazilian.
PSG Record Transfers
- Neymar – €220 million
- Kylian Mbappe – €180 million
- Randal Kolo Muani – €95 million
- Achraf Hakimi – €68 million
- Goncalo Ramos – €65 million
Despite their reputation as one of the richest clubs in football, PSG have only spent above €100 million twice.
Neymar and Mbappe both cost astronomical fees, but their next three biggest signings all fall short of triple figures in terms of millions spent.
Randal Kolo Muani joined from Bundesliga side Frankfurt for €95 million this summer. There is then a huge drop off to their fourth and fifth-most expensive signings.
Achraf Hakimi cost PSG €68 million when he left Serie A side Inter to move to Paris. His fee is marginally more than the cost of Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos.
Ramos joined from boyhood club Benfica for a fee of €65 million in the summer. The striker has so far scored three goals in 13 league appearances for the Parisians.
PSG Owners Net Worth
PSG’s moneybags reputation isn’t without merit, though. Since 2011, the club have been owned by Qatari government-backed investment fund, Qatar Sports Investments.
The fund currently hold 87.5% of shares in PSG, with American firm Arctos Partners controlling the remainder. PSG are comfortably the wealthiest club in France, and among the richest sides in the world.
As of 2023, PSG have the fifth-highest revenue in football, with an annual income of €654 million. According to Forbes, their value of $4.21 billion makes them the world’s seventh-most valuable football club.
