Liverpool have made a habit out of winning from improbable positions down the years. As they continue on their march for the title, it is interesting to note that they top the Premier League ‘second-half table’.
Liverpool Have the Most Points From Losing Positions in 2023/24
At the time of writing, Liverpool kicked-off gameweek 26 by moving four points clear of second-placed Manchester City on Wednesday.
Of their total 60 points amassed so far this campaign, over a third of them (22) have been collected from losing positions. Aptly named the ‘comeback kings’ in years gone by, Jurgen Klopp’s men are living up to that calling once again.
Their most recent comeback win – an eventual 4-1 drubbing of Luton – was their sixth win from a losing position this season after overturning Chiedozie Ogbene’s opportunist header within the first quarter of an hour.

Premier League Second-Half Table is Proof of Liverpool’s Mentality
Liverpool’s points from losing positions inevitably lends itself to their stellar record in the second-half of games. When isolating results solely on performances after the break, they are nine points clear of next-nearest Arsenal having scored 41 goals and conceded just 11 across their 26 games.
Of course, there is an argument to be had that the Reds simply don’t wake up until their backs are against to wall, but their ability to kill games off in the second-half continues to keep them just out of reach of Manchester City and Arsenal in a fascinating three-horse title race.
Whatever extra impetus Klopp instils in his half-time team talks is clearly working; Liverpool rarely concede after the break.
This is a good omen for the German in his final season on Merseyside, with the Reds still second-favourites for the title as per Premier League betting sites.
This second-half superpower is even more apparent at Anfield, where they have dropped just four points when isolating the final 45. With home fixtures against Manchester City, Brighton and Tottenham all yet to be decided, they will look to the Anfield crowd to propel them to victory as time wears on.
However, this isn’t to say their first-half record isn’t any less impressive. In fact, they still rank third with 40 points, just behind Manchester City (43) and Aston Villa (43). It is worth noting, however, that only relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest have more draws when isolating first-half results, which shows just how long it takes for Liverpool to really kick into gear.
