With six games left to play until bookings are wiped clean, we take a look at the Premier League players on four yellow cards as we approach gameweek 14.

When Do Yellow Cards Reset in the Premier League 2023/24?

As usual, the half-way stage of the season marks a clean slate for those players unable to keep themselves out of the referee’s book.

An accumulation of five yellow cards automatically results in a one-game suspension, so those tough-tacklers and time-wasters on the verge of missing out are clambering for Gameweek 20, when all yellow cards reset.

The opening 19 games of the season is the first period of accumulation, and the subsequent 19 after that marks a separate window.

With that in mind, we take a closer look at those in the Premier League staring down the barrel at a possible one-game suspension, should they pick up another yellow card.

Premier League Players On Four Yellow Cards

Arsenal

  • Kai Havertz

The German scored his first goal from open play in Arsenal’s crucial last-gasp victory at Brentford last time out. He has four yellow cards to his name already – just one off his total tally for Chelsea last term.

Aston Villa

  • Matty Cash
  • Lucas Digne
  • Douglas Luiz

Creeping up into the top four with a win at Tottenham has Villa fans screaming from the rooftops, but three players on four yellow cards – all of which are among their most influential starters –  stand on the cusp of suspension at precisely the wrong time.

Pick up a yellow card against Bournemouth this week, and they miss a pivotal clash with Manchester City. Even if they evade that fixture, a booking against the champions would mean they miss out on a trip to current league leaders Arsenal – with whom Douglas Luiz has once again been heavily linked.

Brentford

  • Kristoffer Ajer
  • Christian Norgaard

Brentford captain Christian Norgaard has proved increasingly pivotal to after taking up the mantle of the armband over the summer.

He, along with centre-back Kristoffer Ajer, run the risk of missing an intriguing trip to the south coast to face Brighton on the 6th December.

Burnley

  • Jordan Beyer

Jordan Beyer has featured for the full 90 in half of Burnley’s fixtures thus far, although he was ruled out of four them through injury.

A yellow card just after the half hour mark against West Ham moved him one away from suspension.

Chelsea

  • Raheem Sterling

Luckily for Chelsea, they boast a substitute bench regularly worth over £200m to turn to should their key players be ruled out – this proved ineffective in their 4-1 drubbing at Newcastle, however.

With six goals so far this term, the Blues could lose their second-top scorer should Sterling be booked again.

Crystal Palace

  • Jordan Ayew

Ayew often cuts an isolated figure for Palace, prompting some wild, frustration-induced challenges. He has featured in 90% of the available minutes so far however, so he could be a big loss should he succumb to suspension.

Everton

  • Ashley Young
  • Abdoulaye Doucoure
  • Jarrad Branthwaite

Ashley Young managed to narrowly avoid a second red card of the season in a calamitous display against Manchester United, but a booking moves him a step closer to suspension.

Everton fans will be far more concerned about Abdoulaye Doucoure and Jarrad Branthwaite however, with the pair proving their worth as standout performers so far this term.

Fulham

  • Antonee Robinson

Antonee Robinson’s willingness to get forward often leaves him susceptible to leaving gaps, and as such, a booking.

He has chipped in with two assists in as many games, but he has also been booked in his last three outings.

Luton

  • Tom Lockyer
  • Issa Kabore
  • Marvelous Nakamba

Although upcoming fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester City appear foregone conclusions, Luton will want to arrive at that strenuous period in the best shape possible. They will need to avoid a yellow card against Brentford – notoriously one of the toughest places to go as an away side.

Manchester United

  • Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United’s captain has picked up a yellow card suspension before the half-way point in each of the last two seasons.

Manchester City

  • Rodri

We saw the effect losing Rodri had on Manchester City after his three-game suspension earlier in the season. He will need to navigate with extreme caution in what could be a high-octane affair with Tottenham in week 14.

Newcastle

  • Kieran Trippier
  • Sean Longstaff

With 10 first team players ruled out through injury, these two will be treading with extreme caution against Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest

  • Orel Mangala
  • Ibrahim Sangare

Orel Mangala in particular could be a huge loss for Steve Cooper, having played 86% of Forest’s season so far.

Sheffield United

  • Jack Robinson
  • Ollie Norwood

Liverpool, Brentford, Chelsea and Aston Villa all follow gameweek 14’s bottom-of-the-table decider against Burnley. That upcoming game could prove much more important than a torrid run of fixtures for Sheffield, who are looking for only their second win of the season.

Wolves

  • Ryan Ait-Nouri

Ait-Nouri hobbled off in Wolves’ disheartening VAR pantomime on Monday night – whether he is fit enough to feature for their trip to Arsenal on Saturday remains unclear.
