Gameweek nine is almost over, with just the one game today followed by another on Monday night. Aston Villa host West Ham at just a few days before the sides resume their European campaigns on Thursday night.
Both parties come into the fixture after strong starts to the season. Villa currently sit just outside of the top four after picking up five wins from their first eight Premier League games, and drew 1-1 last time out in a West Midlands derby against Wolves.
Unai Emery’s men are also competing in the Conference League, and have had a topsy-turvy start to life back in Europe with one win and one loss in their first two matches.
As for the Irons, they sit just outside the top six after picking up victories wins in their first eight league games of the season and drew 2-2 the last day against Newcastle United.
David Moyes’ side have also made the perfect start to their Europa League campaign and hold a 100% record in Group A with two wins from two.
The international break likely came at a good time for both sides who have played plenty of football already this season and their busy schedule continues straight after Sunday’s game.
Both sides have away fixtures in Europe to look forward to on Thursday night, with Villa taking on AZ Alkmaar and the Hammers travelling to Greece to play Olympiacos.
