Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed Kalvin Phillips’ proposed loan move to West Ham United today.
Phillips’ West Ham Loan Edges Closer
Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly on the brink of joining West Ham United on loan for the remainder of the season.
The England midfielder is set to join David Moyes’ side for an initial 6 months with a £35m option to buy.
Phillips joined Champions League winners Manchester City from Leeds United in 2022 for £45m, but found minutes hard to come by under Guardiola.
Since joining the Cityzens, Phillips has made just 31 competitive appearances for the club, accumulating a meagre 911 minutes of action in 18 months, according to Transfermarkt.
Guardiola discussed Phillips’ lack of minutes back in December, saying: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I’ve said that many times.
“He doesn’t deserve what has happened to him and I’m so sorry.
“The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example. And after that, I have to give him something and I didn’t do that.
“It’s just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things – and I struggle to see him.”
2024 is a tournament year and with competition for places rife in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, Phillips will be doing everything he can to make sure he is on the plane to Germany for this summer’s European Championship.

Guardiola On Phillips’ Move To West Ham
Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur, Guardiola discussed Phillips’ loan move to West Ham, saying: “The club tells me still it’s not done.
“But he travelled yesterday to make medical tests but it’s not completely done,”
“Apparently he’s going to be on loan for 6-months and hopefully he can play the minutes he deserves and I couldn’t give to him.
“He’s an exceptional human being and hopefully he can prove what he really is.”
