Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged Arsenal to invest in Ivan Toney this summer with the belief that the Brentford striker could bridge the gap between the Gunners and Manchester City.
Paul Scholes Urges Arsenal To Invest In Ivan Toney
Arsenal have been linked to Ivan Toney all summer, but the Gunners are yet to make a move for the Brentford striker in the transfer window with the clock counting down until the Premier League season begins.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus alternated as Arsenal’s striker last year, but many including Paul Scholes believe that an out-and-out goalscorer could bridge the gap to Manchester City at the top of the league.
“It’s hard to say they’ve not got enough because of the amount of goals they scored, and set pieces were a big advantage to them,” Scholes said.
“I think signing a centre-forward would help, definitely. I think signing an out-and-out number nine who will guarantee you 25, 30 goals like Manchester City have, I’m pretty sure it’d help.
“It’s just whether those people are out there. Ivan Toney is probably the one who has been mentioned a lot. I think in Arsenal’s team he could score you 25 goals.”
Toney has just one year left on his contract with Brentford and it has been reported that the forward is keen on a move to a bigger club that competes in Europe ahead of next season.

Recognising that they may lose Toney this summer, Brentford have already signed a new striker ahead of next year with Igor Thiago intended to replace the Englishman up front.
The Bees are wary that they could lose Toney on a free next summer so as the transfer deadline closes in, they could drop their price to even lower than it currently is.
Toney could reportedly be available to buy for around £40m this season which is a number Arsenal amongst other clubs could easily afford.
The Gunners have only signed David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori so far this year in a fairly quiet window and fans have been urging the club to secure a prolific striker ahead of next year.
Toney scored four goals last season after returning from a betting ban midway through the year, but he looked as sharp as ever and even impressed for England off the bench at Euro 2024.
