Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has revealed whether he believes out-of-kilter Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford should start for England at Euro 2024.
Marcus Rashford’s Season
It’s fair to say this season hasn’t gone to plan for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. Off the back of 41 goal contributions (30 goals, 11 assists) last campaign, the 26-year-old has struggled for form this season.
As a result of his lacklustre form, the England international has notched just 5 goals and 6 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this campaign.
To rub salt in the wounds, Rashford found himself at the heart of a disciplinary issue in January after he failed to report to Manchester United training following a night out in Belfast.
Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag dropped him from the squad for Manchester United’s FA Cup fixture against Newport County before Rashford was reinstated for their Premier League fixture against Wolves.
As a result of the academy graduate’s underwhelming season, some have called for the 26-year-old to be dropped from Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Paul Merson On Marcus Rashford’s England Hopes
One man who has cast doubt over Rashford’s level of inclusion in the England squad is Paul Merson. Speaking on the Ben Heath podcast, the Sky Sports pundit said: “He [Rashford] seems a confidence player.
“Some people struggle with it, some people go through bursts. He gets 6 in 6 and then he can go 7 or 8 games without scoring. Now he’s got to come up with solutions.
“He’ll always play. He’s always a threat. Do I play him in front of [Jack] Grealish or [Phil] Foden? I’m not sure.
“It’d be interesting. But Gareth [Southgate] likes him. He’s always going to be in the [England] squad.
“After this podcast, he could get 10 in 10”
