Manchester City vs Newcastle Tip 1: Haaland to Score
Two goals to mark the opening round – it was certainly business as usual for Erling Haaland last weekend.
The Norwegian barely broke a sweat as he poked home City’s opener and then proceeded to thunder a sweeping strike off the underside of the bar half an hour later.
Without much exertion and little effect on their overall performance, he still found himself on the scoresheet – not once, but twice.
Although Newcastle are one of the better equipped teams in the Premier League to deal with him, we would be crazy to bet against him and are expecting him to add to his tally here.
Manchester City vs Newcastle Tip 2: Under 2.5 Goals
These sides finished with the two joint-leading defences from last season, which we expect this to translate to a cagey, hard-fought affair.
The repeat of this fixture saw City run out eventual 2-0 winners, but they certainly had to work for it after managing just three shots on target back in March.
The Magpies sent a strong signal of their intentions in their opener against Aston Villa, and look much better equipped in midfield this time around to deal with City’s suffocating press.
We are expecting a much closer meeting on Saturday evening.
Manchester City vs Newcastle Tip 3: Manchester City to Win
Although Newcastle look to have recruited expertly over the summer and appear to be just as unrelenting as last year, it is impossible to look past Manchester City’s home form.
They dropped just five points at the Etihad in 2022/23, losing just once to Brentford just before the World Cup break.
For all Newcastle’s well-earned plaudits and dangerous self-confidence, this City team are imperious on home soil, and we think they may just edge it with a low scoring victory.
