Oman 2023 Asian Cup Preview

Oman go into the 2023 Asian Cup as huge outsiders at odds of 50/1 with football betting apps to claim their first ever Asian Cup victory. Having only participated in four Asian Cup’s in their history, this year could well be another year of progress.

Oman qualified for their first Asian Cup in 2004, before managing to do so again in 2007, 2015 and 2019. Oman were eliminated at the group stages in their first three participations, but reached the last 16 of the tournament for the very first time in their history in 2019 in the UAE.

Oman’s form coming into the 2023 Asian Cup is reasonably strong. They beat the UAE in early January in a friendly, also beating China 2-0 at the back end of 2023. Oman could be on course to quality for the knockout stages once again, as the second favourites to quality from Group F with UK betting sites behind Saudi Arabia.

This could turn out to be the best Asian Cup to date for Oman, who could perhaps even make it to the quart or semi-finals if things go their way this tournament.

Oman Player To Watch

Without having too many out-and-out star players, Oman are a strong team. In terms of a player to keep an eye on for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, Oman’s number nine Omer Al Malki is a midfielder who is a real handful.

Al Malki has played just 13 times for his country, but has scored four crucial goals. At 30-years-old he is of course no spring chicken, but he has certainly been a late bloomer and have been an integral player in Oman’s progress of late.

Al Malki plays for Al Nahda back in Oman, who are currently second in the league behind Al Seeb. He is an integral player for both club and country, and could be Oman’s player to watch for the 2023 Asian Cup.
