Nottingham Forest vs Everton Report: Toffees Move Off Bottom Spot

Everton’s excellent away form in the Premier League continued at the City Ground on Saturday evening, as Sean Dyche’s side reigned supreme thanks to Dwight McNeil’s second half rocket to lift the Toffees off the bottom of the table.

The Merseyside-club headed into the clash off the back of a bitterly disappointing 3-0 loss to Manchester United, which followed on from being handed a 10-point deduction due to rule breaches.

Forest dealt with Everton’s early onslaught fairly well, denying Beto, who started in place of the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as well as McNeil and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

McNeil had the best opportunity of the first-half too, picking his spot and slotting past Odysseas Vlachodimos, but for a Forest defender to get back in time to clear the ball off the line.

Everton continued pressurising the hosts’ defence and after 67 minutes, it finally paid off. Jack Harrison whipped a dangerous ball into the Reds’ box from the right and after missing everyone in the centre, McNeil controlled the ball at the far post and rifled it into the top right corner.

It was a nervy finish for both sides as Felipe avoided a red card for the hosts, while Morgan Gibbs-White found Anthony Elanga in the Toffees box who narrowly curled his effort past Jordan Pickford’s left-hand post.

The Toffees have now won three successive away matches in the English top flight, sitting two points from safety in 18th, but had they not suffered a points deduction – they’d be in 11th above the likes of Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Fulham.

Defeat for Steve Cooper’s side means that they remain in 15th place, and are now just six points clear of the drop zone as we head towards the Christmas period.
