Nottingham Forest have stood by Steve Cooper amid rumours about a possible sacking, claiming that this speculation is ‘false and disruptive’, per Fabrizio Romano.

The British manager has become a fan favourite amongst Forest supporters, after he guided the club to the Premier League for the first time in over two decades. His side were victorious in the play-off final and Cooper was backed with a historic transfer window in the summer.

Signing over 20 players in the summer window, the Trees went into the season with high expectations. However, the additions to the squad came with it’s consequences as they failed to gel over a short period of time.

The newly promoted side now find themselves 17th in the table and are level on points with Bournemouth in the relegation zone. Many expected the Forest boss to be given his marching orders, but Fabrizio Romano revealed the clubs support for their manager on Twitter.

The likes of Jesse Lingard and Renan Lodi were signed due to the stature of their previous clubs, however they have failed to bring this level of performance to the Midlands.

The former Manchester United midfielder has not been in the squad for the last three Premier League matches, with his last 90 minutes in the league coming in August.

Despite the club showing solidarity with their manager, they expect results to improve quickly and may have no option if Forest’s performances cause relegation to the Championship. Cooper’s focus will now be on his side’s next match, which is a home meeting with the in-form Aston Villa.

If these expectations are not met then the club be on the look-out for a new suitor, with the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter being possible options.
