Despite refusing to give any indication of where his future lies after this season, former red Xabi Alonso is the current frontrunner in the latest next Liverpool manager odds.

Jurgen Klopp will pull the curtain down on nine hugely successful years on Merseyside this summer, and as such, Liverpool’s search for a suitable replacement begins.

One of the most sought-after positions in football should attract the very best in management; none more so than former Champions League-winning Liverpool midfielder Alonso.

The Spaniard has lifted Bayer Leverkusen from the mire of a relegation scrap, and transformed them into Bundesliga champions-elect in just over a year.

His qualities are proving highly desirable with another of his former sides – Bayern Munich – also looking for a new head honcho at the season’s end.

However, this hasn’t stopped Alonso from being widely touted the firm frontrunner in the latest next Liverpool manager odds.

Next Liverpool FC Manager Odds: Reds Face Competition From Bayern Munich For Xabi Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen’s recent 2-1 over Mainz ensured they set a new record for games unbeaten by a German team in all competitions (33).

It leaves them eight points clear at the top of the table, and according to Bundesliga betting sites, they are best positioned to end Bayern Munich’s 11-year monopoly in Germany.

This revolution against the status quo has been led by manager Xabi Alonso, who has the catalyst for Leverkusen’s good fortune since taking over in October 2022.

The Spaniard is unquestionably the reason why Bayer Leverkusen look set to win the Bundesliga this year, but even more than that, they have gone about it in spellbinding fashion.

This has inevitably pricked the ears of Europe’s elite clubs, particularly those who are known to be in search of a new manager come the end of the season.

It just so happens that two of his former employers – Bayern Munich and Liverpool – fit in that bracket. Both are known to hold long-standing admiration for their former player-turned-manager, and wide spread reports suggest both will send proposals once Alonso’s season with Leverkusen has concluded.

Elsewhere, rumblings of alternative candidates have begun to surface. Namely German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently on thin ice with the DFB amid Die Mannschaft’s troubling form.

A poor tournament on home soil in Germany at this summer’s Euros could see him look to return to club football, but the 36-year-old is still considered one of the brightest managerial prospects in Europe, despite his stock falling slightly.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, who has found victory in 136 of his 195 games in charge, is also one of the names in the leading pack.
