Sandro Tonali was forced out of AC Milan in the summer due to Milan needing the money. Newcastle signed Tonali for £55m and he’s had a great start to life at Newcastle but he could be facing a long spell without playing for the Toon after reports of alleged betting breaches.

Tonali is believed to have admitted to placing bets on AC Milan whilst playing for the club. Football players gambling is unfortunately quite common. Tonali’s Italy teammate Nicolo Fagiolo has already been given a worldwide ban of seven months for breaching betting rules.

Another Italy player who joined Aston Villa this summer, Nicolo Zaniolo is also under investigation for betting breaches. Both Tonali and Zaniolo had to withdraw from the Italy squad after the news broke out.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney was also given an 8 month ban for his gambling addiction. He will be allowed to play again in January.

His agent, Giuseppe Riso, said: “He is playing his most important game – against betting addiction.

“He’s in shock, he’s very sad. He has to face this situation. He is training at the moment (at Newcastle). He told me he trained very well. He can play Saturday.”

There are reports from Italy that Tonali could potentially face a 12 month ban but nothing is official yet. He is still expected to play Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace.
