Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says he is “still waiting for clarity” on the details of Sandro Tonali’s ban from football following betting rules breach.
Sandro Tonali’s Ban
Last week Newcastle United announced that midfielder Sandro Tonali would be banned from football for 10 months following his admission to breaching betting rules, which included betting on his former side AC Milan while he was still at the club.
As a result of the ban the Italian will not feature for Newcastle in a competitive game until August 2024 and will also miss out on Euro 2024, should Italy qualify for the tournament in the coming months.
According to Mail Sport, the Magpies are considering taking legal action against AC Milan over the £55m sale of the Italian as the offences had already taken place while he was at the Rossoneri.

Howe On Tonali’s Ban
Tonali played his last game for Newcastle in their 1-0 Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund on October 25, with his betting ban coming into effect on Friday, October 27, before their 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Asked about the details of the Italian’s ban in his Carabao Cup pre-match press conference, Howe said: “We’re still waiting for clarity. He is here. He’s not training with the group yet, because we’re still awaiting that clarity, but he’s in Newcastle.”
The 23-year-old, who has only played twelve games for the Magpies this season, has now started his lengthy suspension, which will include eight months of therapy and participation in anti-gambling initiatives.
Newcastle face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening where they will be hoping to put their recent faltering from, and Tonali’s ban, behind them.
