Eddie Howe has made a habit of successfully infiltrating the transfer market since arriving at Newcastle, but as the club prepare for next week’s summer window opening, the importance of the next few months can not be underestimated.

Having identified a need for further options in midfield, the Magpies have been linked with a strong line-up of budding young creators who can slot into an advanced role.

Their typical starting line-up relies heavily on Joe Willock advancing with the ball, as well as the two wingers drifting inwards to receive the ball.

This has, of course, worked to great effect having finished fourth in the Premier League, but the added challenge of Champions League football has forced them to enter the market in search of world class talent.

The addition of a smooth operator in the hole is something that has been absent so far under Howe, and it would appear he is keen on bringing one in.

Constant links with Leicester’s outgoing maestro James Maddison has dominated Newcastle’s recent transfer news, and the Englishman remains high on their summer shortlist.

However, according to French newspaper outlet L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), RB Leipzig’s creator in chief Dominik Szoboszlai could the be subject of a monumental bid from Newcastle.

The Hungarian has built quite a reputation in the Bundesliga this season, scoring on six occasions and adding eight assists. The all-action, all-rounder is blessed with a fine balance of outrageous technical ability and physicality, which combine to make a midfielder ready-made for Newcastle’s robust, high-octane style.

At just 22, he certainly wouldn’t come cheap with reports of Leipzig demanding a fee of around £70m, but he undoubtedly fits the billing in the search for a new midfielder.
