Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, on loan with the option to buy for around £20m.

Champions League football returned to St James’ Park in the club’s first full season following the recent Saudi Arabian takeover.

Eddie Howe stunned Premier League spectators, as the Toon finished in fourth place and were within touching distance of Manchester United in third.

Champions League qualification was not the only achievement for the club this season, as they reached the Carabao Cup final – losing 2-0 to Manhchester United.

Key signings have been key for the Toon since Howe’s appointment, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope playing a huge part in the club’s success.

One player that is reportedly set to join these key signings next season, is Juventus midfielder and Liverpool ‘flop’, Arthur Melo, who has had a disappointing run since his move from Barcelona.

The Brazilian signed for Barcelona in 2018 after an impressive spell at Gremio and made 72 appearances for the La Liga giants, before moving to Juventus in 2020.

His move to Turin saw Bosnian midfielder, Miralem Pjanic, move to the Nou Camp in a swap deal that failed to benefit either side – as Arthur contributed to two goals in 63 appearances for Juventus.

This underwhelming display left the Old Lady with no option but to offload the 26-year-old, as he joined Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side on loan.

A move to the Premier League was expected to reignite Arthur’s career, however, injuries and poor performances led to the midfielder missing every league fixture – being on the bench for seven matches.

However, Newcastle are said to be keen on bringing the former Barcelona player to St James’ Park, in a loan-to-buy deal that could cost up to £20m.
