Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has given an update on Miguel Almiron’s availability as the Magpies prepare for Sunday’s clash with Manchester United.

The Paraguay international has established himself in the Premier League this season and it has been a record-breaking campaign for the Newcastle star. Scoring eleven goals in the league so far, he leads the goal scoring charts at the Magpies.

However, prior to the international break the tricky winger suffered an injury against Nottingham Forest that looked to put him on the sidelines for multiple weeks. Images of the winger running during the international break surfaced, giving fans hope of a speedy recovery.

Eddie Howe’s recent interview revealed the winger’s current availability and whether or not he will be back in time for this weekend’s huge encounter with Erik ten Hag’s, Red Devils.

The Newcastle manager said: “I don’t see that changing. I’d love it to. I’d love him to beat the timescale given, but I just don’t see it currently.”

With the British manager confirming that Almiron will be unavailable for the match, the responsibility may fall on the shoulders of marquee signing, Anthony Gordon. The former Everton man signed for Newcaslte in January, costing around £45m and is yet to cement himself into the team.

Supporters will be waiting anxiously for the return of their leading marksman and the Magpies boss was able to give a rough time-frame on when Almiron will be ready to compete.

He said: “He’s making really good progress. I think he’s pain-free. I don’t think there’s any long-term issues. I think it’s just a case of that’s the time it will take for the muscle to full heal,”

“So I think we’re four weeks off, maybe slightly less. But yeah, he’s making really good progress.”

His side welcome Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, with both sides looking to secure their place in the Champions League places. Ten Hag will be without Casemiro due to suspension and Marcel Sabitzer is a doubt after picking up a knock on international duty.
