Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were featured in the unveiling of the club’s new kit for the 2024/25 season.
Liverpool Unveil New Throwback Strip
The new strip takes inspiration from their iconic treble-winning 1984 team, which is regarded as one of the greatest sides in the club’s history.
The legendary side, managed by Joe Fagan, won the First Division, the League Cup, and the European Cup that season.
The kit strays away from the traditional plain red, incorporating pinstripes down the body and a wide white collar with a red strip through the centre.
A slight change has been made to the crest and manufacturer logo too, with them now being gold rather than white.
Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk Model In New Liverpool Kit
Liverpool released a promotional video unveiling the kit on Thursday morning, which featured a number of prominent stars from the first team.
Among these players modelling the jersey were captain Virgil van Dijk and talisman Mo Salah.
The futures of both players have been at the forefront of speculation since Jurgen Klopp announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Liverpool, who, at the time, were competing for four trophies, have since crashed out of both the FA Cup and Europa League, and look set to finish third in the Premier League.
Salah, 31, has 12 months remaining on his contract and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia since last summer, while Van Dijk, 32, is also out of contract in 2025, as things stand.
The latter had refused to commit his future to the club earlier in the season when questioned following the Klopp bombshell, but was keen to insist he ‘loved the club’.
The Dutchman says he is a ‘big fan’ of the new kit and hopes it allows the current side to ‘build on history’.
Van Dijk stated, “I’m a big fan of our new kit for next season and love the fact we’re bringing the retro vibe back. We are a club built on history, and the 1984 team was one of our most successful ever. I’m sure our fans will appreciate the nod to those club legends.”
Salah and Van Dijk have been instrumental to Liverpool’s success over the past number of years, but whether they will be part of the new era under manager Arne Slot remains to be seen.
