Minella Indo Gold Cup Odds Make Him a Tempting Each-way Option
The 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo is said to be in “super form” by his trainer Henry De Bromhead as he prepares for his third tilt at the showcase race of the meeting.
Minella Indo In “Super Form” Says De Bromhead
The UK bookmakers have the past champ as Cheltenham odds of @ 20/1 with BetUK to win back his Gold Cup crown on Friday 17th March – which is sure to tempt many Cheltenham Festival each-way punters especially after his trainer has stated he’s in “Super Form” and that he “Grows about six feet when he lands in Cheltenham”.
Henry De Bromhead, who has trained 18 Festival winners, told the Racing Post “He’s great, in super form. We were delighted with him in Tramore and that was a very special day for us for many reasons. It was great to see him back. He’s won a Gold Cup and been second in it, he loves Cheltenham and it’s probably the best preparation he’s had going into the race. He grows about six feet when he lands in Cheltenham for some reason, he just loves it there.”
De Bromhead Chaser Has Never Been Out Of The First Two At The Festival
When they say ‘horses for courses’ this also certainly applies to Minella Indo.
The 10 year-old has run at the Cheltenham Festival four times and is yet to finish worse than second.
As well as his Gold Cup win in 2021, Minella Indo also finished runner-up last year. Add to those Gold Cup runs, a win in the 2019 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle and a silver medal in the 2020 RSA Chase (now the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase), then Minella Indo’s Cheltenham Festival record reads 1-2-1-2.
If that sequence is going to continue, then he’ll be winning the Gold Cup – right?

The Last Horse To Regain The Cheltenham Gold Cup Was?
If Minella Indo does manage to wrestle back his Cheltenham Gold Cup crown, then he’ll become the first horse since Kauto Star to achieve this feat. The Paul Nicholls-trained star chaser maanged Gold Cup wins in 2007 and 2009 – while prior to that no other horse has ever won a Gold Cup after losing their title.
Galopin Des Champs Remains The 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup Favourite
Ahead on Minella Indo in the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup betting is Galopin Des Champs @ 13/8. This year’s Irish Gold Cup winner will be looking to make up for a last fence tumble in the Turners Novices’ Chase at the Festival 12 months ago.
2022 Grand National winner Noble Yeat is next best @ 8/1, while last year’s Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard, who is also trained by Henry De Bromhead, is @ 7/1.
