Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka will not join up with the England squad for the upcoming international break, after the 22-year-old was forced to miss out on the Gunners’ monumental win against Manchester City over the weekend.

Buakyo Saka Struggling With Injury

Bukayo Saka has been struggling with a leg injury for a couple of weeks now, with the Arsenal star limping off the field against both Bournemouth and Lens in the last couple of weeks.

Despite some rumours around Arsenal for the past few days suggesting that Saka may be deemed fit for the Manchester City clash over the weekend, the English superstar was forced to watch on from the sidelines at the Emirates.

Arsenal managed to pull off their biggest win of the season without their top scorer this season however, with the Gunners edging past the Premier League champions thanks to a late Gabriel Martinelli goal that helped his side leapfrog above the Cityzens in the table.

Speaking after their huge win on Sunday, Mikel Arteta confirmed that Saka will have no involvement in the upcoming international break, as the Arsenal star recovers from a painful knock.

“No, he will not make it [to the international break]. He has not trained for a single session.”

Arteta also added that: “He is not available to play football at the moment”, which could be a slight worry for Arsenal fans heading into the international break.

Saka has netted four goals and two assists in his seven Premier League games so far this season, as well as adding two assists and a goal to his game in the Champions League so far.

Gareth Southgate still selected the consistent Bukayo Saka for his upcoming England squad, but it appears he may have to find a replacement for the Three Lions’ upcoming Euro qualifiers.
