Middlesbrough vs Chelsea Head-To-Head (H2H) Record

  • Chelsea and Middlesbrough have met 117 times in competitive matches throughout history

  • Chelsea have won each of their previous eight meetings without conceding a single goal
  • Middlesbrough were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at the Riverside in the FA Cup last season
  • The Riversiders last beat Chelsea when they met in the Premier League back in August of 2006

  • Both teams have failed to score in 13 of their last 14 meetings across all competitions

Middlesbrough vs Chelsea Key Stats

Chelsea extended their winning run to three straight matches with a 4-0 win over Preston in the FA Cup at the weekend, following on from wins over Crystal Palace and Luton in the league.

The Blues now find themselves occupying 10th place in the English top flight table, just a point behind now-eliminated Champions League side Newcastle and three points behind Manchester United and Brighton in eighth and seventh.

Middlesbrough on the other hand, have been in fairly poor form as of late with three defeats in their last four matches. Last time out they were on the losing end of a respectable 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup, which came off the back of a disappointing 3-1 loss to Coventry.

Michael Carrick’s side are now firmly in mid-table in the Championship, sitting four points adrift of the play-off positions and 14 points clear of the relegation zone in 12th place.

Chelsea Boast Incredible Record vs Middlesbrough

As previously alluded to, Chelsea boast an immaculate record against Middlesbrough with eight straight wins against the North Yorkshire club. It’s a run that spans all the way back to 2006, but not only have the Blues won all eight of those fixtures – they’ve done so without conceding a single goal.

That means the West Londoners have scored 21 goals without reply from the Riversiders, with their most recent meeting ending 2-0 in favour of the Blues in the FA Cup quarter-finals last season.

As well, the pair have met on three occasions in the League Cup throughout history, with Chelsea winning two of those and Middlesbrough winning one. You’d have to go all the way back to September 1967 to find that win for ‘Boro though, with the Blues boasting a 2-0 win from their last meeting in the competition back in March 1998.

Blues Come Into The Clash In Good Form

Chelsea’s form over the last few seasons has been inconsistent to say the least, however they come into this one in strong form with five wins from their last six matches across all competitions.

This run was kicked off with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United in the league, followed by a penalty shootout victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Their sole blip across this run then came on Christmas Eve as they were beaten 2-1 away at Wolves, before winning three in succession against Crystal Palace, Luton and Preston.

In comparison, Middlesbrough have lost three of their last four matches across all competitions, which includes a bitterly disappointing 1-0 defeat to Championship relegation strugglers Rotherham on Boxing Day, as well as back-to-back defeats against Coventry and Aston Villa.
