1:15: Catesby Estates Handicap Hurdle Cl3 2m1f ITV4: WILLIETHEBUILDER (EACH-WAY) @ 5/1
The first of the Matt Chapman Cheltenham December Meeting tips on Friday see him with a fancy for the Skeltons.
“I suspect WILLIETHEBUILDER is a very well handicapped horse but he looked iffy under pressure in a novice last time. If connections have straightened that out then he can easily play a part here for the excellent Dan and Harry Skelton combination and has each-way claims. He looked promising at Uttoxeter.”
1:50: Cheltenham Racecourse Food Bank Collection Mares’ Handicap Chase 2m4½f ITV4: EUREKA CREEK (EACH-WAY) @ 12/1
Next up is a selection from the Emma Lavelle Yard, who Chapman says has an each-way chance.
“Here’s a mares’ handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. The fact Emma Lavelle claims from EUREKA CREEK is a worry as it suggests she doesn’t think her charge is well handicapped. That said, I’m happy to give the mare an each-way chance.
“She’s one of the few in here down in trip rather than up in trip, and she wasn’t disgraced at Lingfield last time and has been dropped 1lb. Conditional Joe Anderson takes off 5lb as he did that day.”
2:25: Unibet Middle Distance Chase Series Veterans’ Handicap Chase Cl2 2m 4½f ITV4: STORM CONTROL @ 7/2
The ITV Racing man’s third tip of the day at Cheltenham is a likeable mud lover.
“Here’s a veterans’ handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. A lot of staying mud-lovers in here. I’m hoping STORM CONTROL can roll back the years for Kerry Lee and Richard Patrick.
“The old boy was not disgraced last term when third at Uttoxeter one day and a handicap mark of 129 is of course very workable – he’s been up to 141. He was a terrific dual winner at this track back in 2020.”
3:00: Glenfarclas Crystal Cup Cross Country Handicap Chase 3m5½f ITV4: FRANKY DU BERLAIS @ 10/1Â
Next we head to the Cross Country course and Chapman fancies a staying specialist to return to winning ways.
“A cross country handicap chase over an extended 3m5f. There’s a Gold Cup winner in here in Minella Indo which is kind of cool. His weight of 12st is not so cool though.
“I’ll be surprised if FRANCKY DU BERLAIS is out the first three after his fourth behind Foxy Jacks and Latenightpass at the track in November. He’s been dropped 1lb for that effort and the excellent Sean Bowen rides for his old man Peter.”
3:35: Citipost Handicap Hurdle Cl2 3m ITV4: FONTANA ELLISSI (EACH-WAY) @ 7/1
And lastly, the Matt Chapman Cheltenham tips end with Samuel Drinkwater’s charge in the final contest of the day.
“Here’s a handicap hurdle over 3m. FONTANA ELLISSI will need to be fit for this to score, but he looked progressive for Samuel Drinkwater last season.
“Two seconds at Cheltenham suggested a horse going places – he returns here off a workable mark of 118 with the chance of more to come. Robbie Dunne rides and he might well be an each-way price.”
