Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has publicly stated that he expects to leave the Blues this summer amid transfer interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Mateo Kovacic, who has been subject to speculation linking him with Manchester City this summer, has publicly stated that he expects to leave Chelsea.

The Croatian has enjoyed a five-year spell at Stamford Bridge after moving from Real Madrid, but that time now looks as if it has come to an end.

Despite Chelsea having a terrible season by all accounts, Kovacic has still managed to shine in blue colours.

He made 37 appearances for the Blues in all competitions this term, scoring twice, as well as assisting twice.

Kovacic has now joined up with the Croatian national team ahead of their European Qualifiers in a few weeks time, where he admitted to Nacional that he expects to leave the Blues.

“I have one more year with Chelsea, this season was very bad.

“Everything is going towards the fact that after five good years I will change, but in football anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League.” he said.

The midfielder then went on to speak about Manchester City, amid rumours linking him with a move to Pep Guardiola’s side.

“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens.

“Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”
