The surprise Mateo Kovacic deal to Manchester City is almost done, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The famous journalist and transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, has tweeted to say the deal for Kovacic is close to completion.

The Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup champions Manchester City have been working with Chelsea to secure a deal. It looks like their hard work is set to pay off with a deal worth just over £25million close to being agreed.

The Kovacic deal would end five years at Stamford Bridge. His game time in recent seasons has been lower than other seasons. The midfielder played 500 fewer minutes this season. This has been in thanks to Chelsea’s spending over the last season. His situation at the club explains the reason behind the Kovacic deal.

Kovacic himself did admit that he believes his time at the club is coming to an end:

“I have one more year with Chelsea, this season was very bad.

“Everything is going towards the fact that after five good years I will change, but in football anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League.”

It looks as though the player himself knows that his time at Chelsea is up. But will we see Kovacic at Manchester City next season?
