Brooks Koepka has admitted that his decision to join the rebel LIV golf tour could have been different if he was healthy and playing in his current form.

Koepka built a commanding lead during the second round, shooting a five-under-par bogey-free 67 to move to 12 under and three shots clear of Jon Rahm in second.

After sharing an overnight lead with Rahm and Viktor Hovland, Koepka separated himself from the pack on Saturday before play was suspended due to the threat of inclement weather.

39 players are still to complete their second rounds and the possibility of a first Monday finish at The Masters since 1983 is increasingly likely.

Koepka’s dominant performance at Augusta so far has raised a number of questions regarding his future at LIV with many entertaining the possibility of a return to the PGA Tour.

Last week, the 32-year-old became the first player to hold two LIV titles after sealing victory at The Gallery Golf Club in Orlando and is looking more like the four-time major winner we saw from 2017-19.

He has admitted that his decision to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV in June 2022 could have been very different if asked today following a gruesome knee injury suffered after falling in his home.

“Honestly, yeah, probably, if I’m being completely honest. I think it would have been. But I’m happy with the decision I made.”

In order to re-join the PGA Tour, a current member would have to depart and make way for Koepka – raising questions about the integrity of the game if allowed to happen so quickly.

Action is scheduled to resume at Augusta today, but between an inch and two of rain is expected to fall on a chilly Saturday in Georgia and thunderstorms are forecast once again.

Several patrons had a lucky escape towards the end of Friday’s second round after strong winds brought three trees crashing down, but luckily none were injured. Gusts of 25-30 miles per hour wind are forecast for day three.
