Marc Cucurella endured a difficult start to his Chelsea career last season but the Spaniard insists he is happy at the club after starting four of the last five Premier League games.

Cucurella joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 after completing a £60m move from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Marc Cucurella’s Rise At Brighton

Cucurella only played on the south coast for one season, featuring in 38 games across all competitions for Brighton as he helped the club to a ninth placed finish.

He scored his one and only goal for the club in a 4-0 thrashing against Manchester United, and his performances that season saw Chelsea come knocking. Manchester City were also heavily linked with the left-back but it was the Blues who secured his signature in August of last year.

Marc Cucurella’s Unhappy First Season

“I’m not happy with my first season, but I can learn a lot, especially in the bad moments,” Cucurella confirmed ahead of  Chelsea’s clash against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

“Before I came here, I always played and played well and never had problems like this. I didn’t play at my level, I’m a little bit frustrated and I can learn to manage this,” he added.

Marc Cucurella’s Back To His Best?

Marc Cucurella has played every minute of Chelsea’s run to the quarter-final of the EFL Cup this season but it’s the Spaniard’s mentality which he believes has put him in good stead as he features more prominently in the Premier League.

“Now I can show them that I’m very happy here and all the things I learnt last season, I can put here in this season. I think this season is better. I’m very good mentally and I think this is one of the important things because if you are good mentally and in your life, I think you can play better,” he concluded on Sky Sports.

Cucurella To Cement Place In Starting XI?

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have endured a series of injuries this season, particularly in defence which has not only given Cucurella another chance, but the opportunity to cement his place in the Blues strongest starting XI.

Time will tell if Marc Cucurella becomes a permanent fixture in Chelsea’s starting line-up but he will certainly strengthen his claim with a solid performance against the champions this weekend.
