Erik Ten Hag gave a chance to 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo during Manchester United’s pre season finale against Real Madrid, but the youngster was forced off injured after just six minutes of the game.

Mainoo suffered a nasty clash with Rodrygo after just five minutes on Wednesday night, which forced him off the pitch early on during United’s clash with Real Madrid.

Before Mainoo could break replaced Jude Bellingham scored his first goal for Real Madrid to give Los Blancos an advantage, which further rubbed salt into the Manchester United wounds.

Christian Eriksen replaced the 18-year-old in midfield and he was later seen wearing a protective boot and using crutches after the match, which was a worrying sign for United fans.

Erik Ten Hag provided an update on Mainoo’s injury following the game, saying they just have to wait for the ‘diagnosis’ after the injury.

“Hopefully he is not too bad + chances will come. I wanted to see what levels he could play against Arsenal, we were pleased with his performance.

“I wanted to see if he could repeat that + set conclusions. Now I have to wait for the diagnosis.”

Mainoo also started against Arsenal during their pre season win last week and he impressed many with his performance, including new United captain Bruno Fernandes.

“He’s a great player,” Fernandes said after the Arsenal win on Saturday. “He’s good on the ball, strong, he can defend and attack.”

“He’s still pretty young but we see a bright future for him.”

Although the injury is yet to be diagnosed, Mainoo is expected to miss the beginning of the season which comes in just two weeks, as United face Wolves at Old Trafford to kick off their Premier League campaign.
