Manchester United vs Bayern Munich Report: United Crash Out Of Europe Following Bayern Loss
Manchester United were yet again put to the sword at home in the Champions League, as Bayern Munich dominated at Old Trafford despite the visitors qualification to the knockouts already confirmed.
Harry Kane made his presence known after just two minutes in the match at Old Trafford, with the former Tottenham striker peeling off his man and firing a low shot across goal that narrowly missed the mark.
The England captain had more opportunities throughout the first period, but he couldn’t capitalise on any off his chances as the teams went into the tunnel with the scores level at half time.
Manchester United were forced to make one change in the first half, as Premier League player of the month Harry Maguire was withdrawn with what appeared to be a serious looking groin injury after just 40 minutes.
Jonny Evans came on to replace the former United captain – partnering alongside Raphael Varane who earned a once in a blue moon call-up to Erik Ten Hag’s starting squad.
United’s injury woes appeared to continue just after the break, as Luke Shaw was substituted by Ten Hag with another knock to add to the ever growing injury list.
It was Bayern Munich who took the lead against United eventually, with Kingsly Coman scoring the only goal of the game with just 20 minutes left on the clock.
A neatly worked team goal was enough to give the visitors an advantage with 70 minutes on the clock and Bayern never looked like giving up that advantage with United crashing out of Europe with the loss.
What Next For Manchester United & Bayern Munich?
The Champions League last 16 draw takes place on Monday night, with Bayern Munich the top seed from their group alongside Copenhagen who scraped through in second place.
Manchester United on the other hand can focus on their domestic success having crashed out of Europe, with Erik Ten Hag’s side travelling to Anfield on Sunday to play Liverpool.
