Manchester United are reportedly prepared to part ways with Frenchman Anthony Martial, as the long-serving striker remains unhappy playing second fiddle to Rasmus Hojlund.

Anthony Martial’s eight-year association to Manchester United looks to be nearing a disappointing end, as the Red Devils reportedly feel that the time is right to part ways with the forward, either in January or in the summer.

The Frenchman was tipped for stardom upon his move from Monaco in 2015, and after scoring on his debut against Liverpool – United fans believed that they had the next big thing on their hands.

89 goals, 54 assists and 307 appearances later though, it hasn’t quite worked out like that as the 27-year-old’s gametime has been limited in recent seasons and he finds himself playing second fiddle to summer signing Rasmus Hojlund.

Martial has started just three games under Ten Hag this season, and has been pushed to the bench since Hojlund’s recovery from injury, which follows on from a decent campaign in 2022/23 where he bagged nine goals in 29 games.

Football Insider claim that he isn’t keen being a backup in Erik ten Hag’s squad, and that he wants to feature more prominently – so a move away looks to be the best option for all parties.

Their report reveals that the Old Trafford club are prepared to sell the former France international in January, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.

United do have an option to extend his contract by 12-months though, and may activate that option in order to secure a fee for his departure if they are unable to offload him during the winter.

In other news, the Red Devils are said to be interested in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as they hunt for defensive reinforcements, meanwhile Harry Maguire has said that he’s ‘not playing anywhere near enough’ for the club.
