Manchester United Interested In Gareth Southgate

Erik Ten Hag is under pressure at Old Trafford, with a decision on his future likely to be confirmed before the end of this season. United are expected to be on the lookout for a new boss in the summer, and potential candidates are already being considered.

Reports on Thursday suggested that England manager Gareth Southgate is one of the names that will be considered to replace Ten Hag, and that does indeed seem to be the case.

While Southgate’s ability to lead a top club side might lack evidence, there are other traits that do fit with how the club are likely to build out from here.

Southgate has the right temperament and personality that will be looked for in the coming years as a new team is put together, and he has also shown a calm approach to dealing with major tournaments with England.

His work with elite players in that set-up and building strong relationships with them is also a trait that has not gone unnoticed. Sources also indicate that Dave Brailsford and Southgate have had a strong relationship for some time.

We recently revealed how United’s FA Cup match with Liverpool is a key game for Ten Hag if he is to have any chance of continuing at Old Trafford, however there is plenty of evidence to suggest that he isn’t the man to lead the club forward – regardless of the result in that one.

INEOS have been studying Ten Hag’s time at Manchester United for a while and will be keen to avoid seeming reactive when they make a final decision on the Dutchman’s future.

Graham Potter also remains an interesting contender for the job, while sources believe it would be difficult to see Roberto De Zerbi making the switch from Brighton for next season.
