Manchester United have made a verbal offer to Inter Milan for their goalkeeper Andre Onana, as the Red Devils look to find a David De Gea replacement this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United have made a verbal offer for their number one target this summer with an official bid expected to come soon.

Fabrizio Tweeted on Wednesday morning that despite not submitting an official bid yet, United have begun the process of securing their new keeper.

“Understand Manchester United have presented in the morning their verbal proposal for Andre Onana. £39m total package – add-ons included. The bid will be official soon.

“Inter expect €60m (£51.4m) fee for Onana, add-ons included. No agreement at this stage. Onana, keen on move.”

United are looking at Onana because David De Gea is set to depart Old Trafford this summer on a free transfer, after coming under heavy criticism for the last two seasons.

The fee of £50m+ could be a concern to United, who reportedly have just £100m to work with this summer if they don’t sell any players.

Erik Ten Hag has already signed Mason Mount in this window for a transfer fee of around £60m, which means the Red Devils have around £40m to work with before departures if they don’t want to breach FFP rules.

Onana has already played under Ten Hag for Ajax before the manager left for United, so personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue in the deal.

With De Gea set for a departure most likely to Saudi Arabia this summer, United will be keen to secure their new number one ahead of the new season that begins next month.
