Manchester United are reportedly in talks with right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka over a brand new long-term contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Football Insider are reporting that Manchester United are in talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka over a new contract at Old Trafford, as the defender’s absence from the first-team continues due to injury.

Wan-Bissaka’s current deal runs until the end of the 2023/24 season, with United holding an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, however it is reported that the Red Devils are keen to tie him down to a brand new long-term deal instead.

Having joined from Crystal Palace for a reported £50million back in 2019, Wan-Bissaka fell out of favour upon Erik ten Hag’s arrival in Manchester, but he has since reclaimed his starting berth at right-back, and is now first-choice ahead of Diogo Dalot.

Wan-Bissaka started the season in great form, but has seen his level of involvement limited in recent weeks after he was forced off with an injury in the loss against Brighton in mid-September.

The 25-year-old remains out with a hamstring injury, and is expected to be out of action until at least the end of November, with Dalot back in the line-up at right-back as Ten Hag’s injury struggles continue.

Not only have United had to make do defensively without Wan-Bissaka, but also Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. These injuries saw Ten Hag field an unlikely pairing of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in central defence against Brentford at the weekend, while Victor Lindelof was forced to deputise in left-back amid Shaw and Malacia’s absences.
