Manchester United are interested in a swap deal with Crystal Palace as Aaron Wan-Bissaka could return to Selhurst Park.
The swap deal
Despite signing a 4-year contract extension in August, Michael Olise is set to leave Crystal Palace in the summer. The Eagles are preparing for a big summer rebuild which could mean offloading some of their big players.
Manchester United recently gave Wan-Bissaka a one-year contract extension to ensure that the right-back wouldn’t leave for free in the summer.
Crystal Palace are likely to be persuaded by Wan-Bissaka as their right-back choices are slim with Joel Ward injured. Manchester United signed Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in 2019 for £50m, but he never found form in the United squad, even though he’s made 176 appearances for them. He’s been playing out-of-position at left-back whilst Luke Shaw is out.
Diogo Dalot has occupied the right-back position which has led to Manchester United to keeping a respectful six clean sheets in the league.
Why do Manchester United want Olise
Manchester United have struggled going forward this season. In the Premier League, they’ve only managed 24 goals which is the 16th lowest in the league.
Antony has gone the whole season without a goal or assist which has angered fans. Olise has six goals and one assist in Roy Hodgson’s side but he hasn’t been playing recently due to a hamstring injury.
Olise brings a pacy and skilful attacking presence which would suit Manchester United’s style of play. Olise could be Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first signing since taking over 25% of the club.
The 22-year-old has also been drawing attention from Chelsea and Liverpool. Chelsea were desperate to sign him in the summer before Olise penned a new four-year deal with Palace.
Crystal Palace’s struggles
Crystal Palace have also struggled for goals in the league. They’ve only scored 22 which beats out United’s 24. Crystal Palace sit in 14th place – a respectful position given they’ve got a few injuries. They’re likely missing Wilfred Zaha who left for Galatasaray in the summer.
According to ESPN, Crystal Palace are targeting a summer rebuild as they believe they can achieve more than what they’re currently doing.
This means selling talent and scouting cheap and affordable players that could take them to the next level. Hodgson has revealed he won’t be apart of those plans as he’s retiring from football at the end of the season.
