Manchester United fans are expecting changes now that Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS have a 25% share in the club. A change in management could be on its way as talks with Graham Potter have begun over replacing Erik Ten Hag.

What talks have Manchester United had with Graham Potter?

Manchester United have informally contacted Potter about the possibility over becoming Manchester United manager. Potter has been out work since April after Chelsea sacked him; just six months after he was appointed manager.

Pressure is mounting on Erik Ten Hag. It seemed he was starting to get Manchester United back on track after a successful debut season. A return to the Champions League and a Carabao Cup delighted fans but they’re slowly starting to turn on Ten Hag as they were knocked out of European football and they currently sit 8th in the Premier League.

What role does INEOS have at Manchester United?

INEOS have a 25% share which includes running football operations at Manchester United. INEOS are a global healthcare manufacture. The chairman Jim Ratcliffe also owns Ligue 1 side Nice with INEOS.

Reactions to the Potter news

Mark Goldbridge spoke on The United Stand about Potter potentially coming to Manchester United. He said: “At Chelsea it didn’t work because he was out of his depth, why would Manchester United look at that failure and try it at our club. He’s not the man to take us back to the top.”

Over at talkSport, Simon Jordan has been speaking on the matter and has warned Manchester United not to go with Graham Potter in regard to his horrendous time he had at Chelsea.

He said: “To put Graham Potter in the conversation is stretching it a little bit. What we’re doing is deciphering the relevance and coherency of such thinking. You couldn’t cope with Chelsea, you think you can cope with Man United? You think you can cope with that problem?

“It’s still a beast of a football club and the step up from Brighton to Chelsea was too much for him. It was the wrong decision and you can point towards the ownership model being all new and all the problems that Boehly brings but you still should have been able to cut through and build a side of some significance.”
