Manchester City vs Fluminense (4-0) Report: City Secure First Club World Cup Title

Manchester City’s debut in the Club World Cup couldn’t have gone much better this season, with Pep Guardiola’s side cruising to the trophy after a convincing win against Fluminense in the final.

It took the Ciytzens under a minute to break the deadlock, as Julian Alvarez buried the ball into an empty net with just 40 seconds on the clock to hand City a commanding advantage.

A dangerous Nathan Ake strike from range ricochetted off the post, with Alvarez reacting quickest to smash home the rebound following a sharp touch from the Argentine inside the six yard box.

Guardiola’s side settled well after their quick start and it took just under half an hour for them to double their advantage in Saudi Arabia, with an own goal helping them towards their first Club World Cup title.

With no Erling Haaland named in the Manchester City squad yet again, it was always going to be important that last season’s treble winners were able to find goals from somewhere.

It was Phil Foden who turned creator to double City’s advantage, with a mazy run leading to a cross from the England international which deflected off Brazilian defender Nino to make the score 2-0 after just half an hour.

In the second half City continued their relentless pressure, with a barrage of attacks eventually rewarded in the 70th minute as Foden put the game out of reach once and for all.

The 23-year-old impressed all game and deserved his goal, with Alvarez this time turning provider for Foden who was able to finish from the edge of the six yard box to confirm his side’s superiority.

Alvarez was on hand to put a final stamp on a comfortable win for City, with his second of the game just before full time rounding off an impressive performance

The 4-0 win for Manchester City secured the side their first ever Club World Cup Trophy at the first time of asking.
