Pep Guardiola’s treble winning Manchester City side will return to action this weekend when they kick-off their pre-season tour of Asia against Yokohama F. Marinos. With just one significant arrival and one significant exit so far, read on for Manchester City’s pre-season fixtures as well as key information you need to keep up with their tour.

Unlike most sides, Manchester City are yet to kickstart their 2023/24 pre-season campaign, and have just three matches scheduled to prepare them for the upcoming season, as well as the Community Shield clash versus Arsenal. This gives them a significantly lower amount of preparation in comparison to some of their rivals – for example, Manchester United have eight pre-season matches scheduled.

But who dares question the methods of Pep Guardiola and his treble winning side, as they get underway in pre-season against the champions of Japan on Sunday.

Manchester City Pre-Season Squad

Guardiola’s squad for their pre-season fixtures is yet to be announced, however they are expected to have a full squad to choose from, except possibly the injured Kevin de Bruyne.

New arrival Mateo Kovacic will likely play a part in Guardiola’s preparations for the new season, whilst returning Joao Cancelo may also have a role to play.

If last season’s pre-season tour is anything to go off – plenty of City youngsters will be handed a chance to impress the Spanish boss.

Last term, Rico Lewis played a big part in pre-season and caught Guardiola’s eye, seeing him be promoted from City’s youth teams to the first-team for the majority of the season.

Others to take advantage of the pre-season opportunities in recent years have been the likes of Phil Foden, Tommy Doyle and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, so a large contingent of youth players are expected to travel with the squad to Asia.

Carlos Borges, who is tipped by many to become the next breakout star from the City academy, may miss out and be given more time to rest though, having just returned from the Under-19 European Championship.

The same may also apply to Cole Palmer, Harwood-Bellis, Doyle and Sergio Gomez who all took part in the Under-21 European Championship that culminated earlier in July.
